The territory

The Oltrepò Pavese is situated in the southern part of Lombardy, between Piemonte (Piedmont) and Emilia Romagna.

Departing from the Po river there is a strip of flat land that stretches until the hills. The hills extend up to the southernmost area, where the Ligurian Apennines is situated. Its peaks can be higher than 1000 metres, as Mount Penice (1460 metres) and Mount Lesima (1720 metres).

Oltrepò Pavese is crossed by the 45th Parallel, that is positioned halfway between the North Pole and the Equator. It is the magical latitude for oenology, in fact it is possible to obtain the perfect balance between full-body and elegance, thanks to the flawless mix of thermal excursion, raininess and sun exposure.

Soils' origins are the seabed of the Liguarian-Piedmontes Ocean, that became the Tyrrhenian Sea. The soil is composed by the calving of marly-calcareous and sandstone rocks, which give it dissimilarity depending on the parent rock erosion and its composition. This permits to cultivate different varieties of grapes such as Pinot Nero, Croatina, Uva Rara, Riesling and many others.
